There is preparing for a single night, made of mystery, prayer and ancient rituals that fill the streets of the island - in the dark and silent occasion - the atmosphere, transporting those who participate in a dimension without space and time.

The first appointment with the ceremonial Holy Thursday is around 18.30 with the "Washing of the feet" at the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, in the heart of the island, from which the procession of the Twelve Apostles, organized by what is the oldest island brotherhood, that of Whites or the SS. Sacramento, founded in 1583 by Cardinal Innico D'Avalos of Aragon.

It continues with the rite of ' "Last Supper" in the former Church of St. James at the end of which the bread is distributed to all participants.

The parade starts following, in the dark, as the Apostles hooded and silent carry on the shoulder a stopping cross in every church you encounter along the way, accompanied by members of the brotherhoods that illuminate the path with the big candles.

Among the steps is the Church of St. Thomas Aquinas in which the statue of Christ is kept Dead (wood, Carmine Lantricene 1728) that will be watched over by the faithful tomorrow starting from 5 am until 6:30 or so, when will carried in procession to the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo, on top of Terra Murata.

The end of the vigil will be marked by the so-called "call" trumpets and drumbeats that will sanction the beginning of the Good Friday celebrations, marked by what is one of the most scenic and ancient processions around the Mediterranean
