Casale Vascello, an ancient fortified town situated at the foot of Terra Murata, is the first settlement formed after the deployment of Saracen invasions, which led to the displacement of the population to new areas of the island.
A well preserved XVII complex has two entrances - one on Via Principe Margherita and the other on Via Salita Castello - from which, presumably, its original name "the broken vessel" is derived from. Another theory about the name is that it originated from the dialect word "vescieddo" or "King Vescio" that means "down", indicating the housing resettlement downward.
The complex is built around a large central courtyard, often used as a small theater during summer cultural events, on which you can see numerous houses and from where it meets a system of narrow alleys.
